A semi truck rig plunged off of I-5 onto the street below late Thursday night in the city of Lakewood, Washington causing an accident that spilled food products across the road. The Washington State Patrol said the accident was likely caused by the driver falling asleep at the wheel. No one beyond the semi truck driver was reported to have been injured in the accident.
Investigators with the Washington State Patrol said the semi truck rig gradually swerved off of the northbound lanes of I-5 near Lakewood. The semi truck rig then fell nearly 20 feet to the street below. The cargo the semi truck was carrying, various food products, spilled across 96th Street in Lakewood, closing traffic from Front Street to Hosmer for over 8 hours following the accident. If you’ve been hurt in an accident involving a semi truck, you may be entitled to financial compensation for your injuries and losses.
This marks the second accident in as many weeks a semi truck traveling along I-5 has spilled cargo after a driver has fallen asleep. Just last week another semi truck tipped over and spilled millions of chicken feathers across I-5.
