Two Bellevue police officers were involved in a crash early Thursday morning on I-405. The two officers were each riding motorcycles as they escorted an enormous piece of construction equipment northbound along the interstate. The crash took place shortly after 5 a.m.
The crash took place just before the morning rush hour and snarled traffic for hours. Police had no choice but to divert traffic down an off-ramp. Traffic along I-405 was backed up for over 6 miles and caused the nearby roads to be congested as well. The northbound lanes reopened again by 7 a.m.
The Bellevue police offers only suffered minor injuries.
The crash happened south of I-90 near the Lake Washington Boulevard exit. Investigators mapped the scene with drones before reopening the northbound I-405 lanes.
