An early morning crash killed two people along State Route 18 not far from Tiger Mountain on Friday. The crash took place shortly after 5 a.m. and left traffic snarled for hours afterward.
Washington State Police confirmed that the driver who caused the crash was taken into custody for two counts of vehicular homicide. Investigators believe the crash occurred after a Dodge Ram truck careened across the dividing line into oncoming traffic and hit a Honda sedan carrying the two people who were killed in the crash. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
After the driver of the Ram truck was transported to the hospital to treat his injuries, Police arrested him for the two counts of vehicular homicide. Washington State troopers suspect alcohol or drug use is to blame for the crash.
“Due to observations and other things … that individual is in custody at Harborview [Medical Center] for investigation of two counts of vehicular homicide due to what we believe is impairment,” said Trooper Johnson.

The crash caused traffic delays up to four miles down the Issaquah-Hobart Road and was not cleared for over two hours. The section of State Route 18 where the crash happened did not reopen until after 9:30 that morning.
Investigators do not suspect road conditions nor inclement weather is to blame for the crash.
