A taxi crash shut down Highway 99 near Shoreline early Thursday morning. The taxi crash occurred at the North 155th Street exit and involved three other vehicles. A passenger in the taxi cab died as a result of the crash. Two others were injured.
The King County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. when one of the vehicles suddenly crossed the median into the southbound lanes and hit another vehicle head-on. The two crashed vehicles then cascaded into two other vehicles that were driving nearby. The third and fourth vehicles suffered minor damage.
The deceased passenger who was riding in the back of the taxi was later identified as a 62-year-old woman. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the head-on crash was severely injured and had to be rushed to Harborview Medical Center. His status is unknown at this time. The other drivers were unharmed.
Highway 99 was closed for several hours after the crash as detectives with the King County Sheriff’s Office investigated the taxi crash. The highway later reopened shortly after noon.
