A Kent police officer was killed early Sunday morning in an accident involving another police vehicle. Washington State Patrol said the officer, later identified as Kent Police Officer Diego Moreno, was laying down spike strips across an intersection when another police vehicle hit him.
In a Facebook post, the Kent Police Department said that the police officers were pursuing a red truck that fled a parking lot near Shari’s restaurant, following reports of gunshots shortly after 2 a.m. The officer driving the police cruiser was seriously injured in the crash and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
Kent police continued to pursue the red truck until it crashed not far from State Route 167. Two people inside of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident and have yet to be detained. The driver, however, was apprehended.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Diego Moreno. He was part of our family and we will always have him in our hearts. Please continue to keep Officer Moreno, his family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers. pic.twitter.com/VVpCsrCy9W

The Kent Police Department along with the Washington State Patrol are currently investigating the events preceding the accident.
