An early morning car accident on Interstate 5 took the life of a Renton man early this week. The car accident took place shortly before 5 a.m. not far from the Georgetown neighborhood.
Washington State Patrol believe the car accident was caused by a driver in a Jeep Grand Cherokee who was speeding down the southbound lanes of I-5 close to the South Albro Place exit ramp and near the Michigan Street off ramp. The driver appears to have hit another vehicle, lost control of his Jeep Grand Cherokee, struck a guardrail, and then flipped the vehicle unto its roof. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident.
Washington State Patrol troopers said the car accident sent debris flying into oncoming traffic. This debris then struck a third vehicle, causing minor damage. No other victims were injured in the car accident despite the Seattle Fire Department having to extricate one of the surviving drivers from their damaged vehicle.
The identity of the deceased victim has yet to be released by authorities.
The car accident is currently being investigated by the Washington State Patrol.
