A father and his 4-year-old son were hurt in a crash involving a King County Metro bus Tuesday morning. The crash happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. in an I-5 Express lane not far from Mercer Street.
Washington State Patrol troopers said the driver, a 28-year-old male, was driving south with his son, who was not wearing a seatbelt, when he did not see the bus ahead of him was slowing down. He attempted to steer away from the bus, but nonetheless hit the right backside of it.
The crash was so severe Seattle Fire Department had to extract the father and his son from the wrecked sedan. Both were immediately transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
The bus involved in the crash had over 30 passengers aboard. No one on the bus was reported to have injured. A replacement bus was dispatched to pick up the stranded passengers.
The crash backed up traffic for miles along the I-5 express lanes and was not cleared until 11 a.m.
The driver was cited by WSP troopers for reckless endangerment.
