A pedestrian was run over by a dump truck early Wednesday morning in downtown Seattle. The Washington State Patrol said the pedestrian was attempting to run across I-5 when he was hit by the truck.
The collision occurred in the southbound lanes of I-5 not far from Seneca Street. Unfortunately, the timing could not have been worse. The pedestrian was hit just before 7 a.m., right as the morning commute was beginning. Parts of I-5 were closed for over two hours Wednesday morning.
“Where it occurred, it didn’t allow anyone to get on southbound I-90 from I-5,” said Washington State Trooper Rock Johnson.
Investigators with Washington State Patrol said the pedestrian had been attempting to cross Spring Street to I-5 when he was hit by a Peterbuilt dump truck as it exited the southbound lanes of I-5 into the collector-distributor lanes. The pedestrian was believed to have been killed instantly.
Washington State Patrol is currently investigating the pedestrian’s death.
