An accident in Darrington, Washington claimed the lives of two teenagers on Monday afternoon. Deputies with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said the accident took place along the Mountain Loop Highway near Clear Creek Road.
The accident is reported to have occurred just after 3 p.m. when the driver, a 19-year old resident of Aberdeen, drove head-on into construction equipment parked alongside Mountain Loop Highway. Both the driver and his passenger, a 17-year old male from Darrington, died at the scene of the accident.
Snohomish investigators with the Sheriff’s Office said excessive speed is to blame for the accident but are still looking into whether alcohol played a factor as well.
Neither of the teenagers have been identified at this time.
Both Clear Creek Road and Mountain Loop Highway were closed during the investigation conducted by the Collision Investigation Unit. The Snohomish Sheriff’s Office said no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
