A pedestrian was killed in an accident involving an Amtrak train early Saturday morning. The accident occurred in Seattle next to the Interbay neighborhood.
According to the Seattle Police Department the man was killed in the accident around 8 a.m. at the crossing of West Harrison Street and Elliot Avenue West. Police received reports of a body near the tracks. At this time, detectives do not know why the man was on the tracks before being hit by the train.
None of the nearly 100 passengers on board at the time of the accident are reported to be injured. The train continued on to Vancouver despite being delayed for some time.
The public is reminded by BNSF Railway and Amtrak that crossing railway tracks outside of designated areas is not only dangerous but illegal.
Seattle Police have yet to release the name of the victim in the accident.
